Rickey tests his trim all the way to the Lewis Fly-In
From an email account by Mr. Anderson
I've gotten quite a few short
flights in so far this year -- some of them with Greg R. and some with my plane.
I did manage to make the BIG Flight to LEWIS (LOT) this Sunday (LOL!) for their
Fly-In Breakfast. I noticed that Jim was working on his Cherokee when I
left. Though I left a little late in the morning, about 10:45am-ish, I got
a chance to see a few trainers and a P-51. There was someone in what
looked like a Pitts that was doing high-g turns and 1/2 roles.
During the short flight is I got a change to test my new elevator trim system using bungees that that I installed after input from Colin. My approach also includes an elevator dampening spring which holds the elevator in a neutral position on the ground versus it free-hanging on the elevator cable. The modification allows me to trim for extremely slow flying without having to physically hold the stick back. It worked great!! It was a little challenging to test this in the winds on Sunday, but the gusts were manageable. I should have done this years ago.
I've agreed to be Greg's wingman for this year's flight to Oshkosh (assuming I am able to make it), and Greg's normal speed is 40-45 mph. I didn't want to have to fight my stick all the way to Oshkosh trying to fly slow. Anyway, it is working fine, but I still need to make some minor adjustments.
I saw both Vance and Jim leaving when I returned to Clow after the show.
