Minutes of January 6, 2011 meeting

 

Meeting held at Charlie’s Restaurant, Clow airport. Called to order by Roger at 7:03pm

 

Roger welcomed the members and reminded everyone that annual dues needed to be paid

 

Roger reviewed the mission statement and meeting agenda

 

BUSINESS

 

The secretary read the minutes from the Nov. 2010 meeting

 

Treasurer reported a balance of $2,574

 

Education Training – Nothing reported

 

Web-Site – Up to date. Brian need input for the next news letter

 

Clow report – Kevin noted some individuals tightening their roofs. Vinyl roofs may actually loosen in cold temps.

 

Cushing – Coyote on skies was flying recently, took off across the field.

 

EMERGING BUSINESS

 

Christmas party debrief –

 

Turn out was held down by bad weather

 

All said it was a good time and the food was good but the desert was lacking

 

Discussed ways to make next year better

 

Thanks to all who helped organize this year’s party

 

All ideas to improve next year’s event are welcome.

 

FVFC received a check for $200 from EAA chapter 461 for helping with Cavalcade (thanks again to all the volunteers

 

Next Meeting at Charlie’s  2/3/11

 

Club leadership – Time to elect Officers

 

A request for new volunteers/nominations was greeted with extreme quiet

 

After some discussion the following people stepped up

 

Roger Kellogg offered to serve one more year as President

 

Christine Ward – VP to focus on club membership, ideas to attract new members and retain current members

 

Don Leonard – VP to focus on organizing club activities (group trips to local fly-ins etc.)

 

Tom Houghton – Agreed to serve one more year as Treasurer

 

Dan Gathercoal – Agreed to serve one more year as Secretary (unless someone else volunteers)

 

A motion passed to set the officers as listed above.

 

There was an extensive discussion of FVFC, what are we? What do we want to be?

 

Going forward, how do we attract more membership

 

It was noted that we are perceived as an ultralight club but we are a Flying Club. How do we change perception. New logo etc.

 

Matt discussed his feelings that the club has lost its focus on safety and that there is less “looking out for each other” then in the past.

 

PROJECT UPDATES

 

Steve V – Kit fox; Some minor progress

 

Tom H – Kitfox; Slow moving in the cold

 

Andrew K – Cassult; no progress

 

Roger K – RV7; Installed 14” screen Dynon Sky View and is getting it wired and working

 

Flying Reports

 

Not much. Tom H reported he flew the Sport Curser for the first time and liked it

Remember “short cuts lead to short flights”

 

Good of the Club

 

Roger noted that the thorps at Cushing were on the ground do to engine cooling issues. Rotec has developed water cooled heads for the 6 cylinder Jabirus, may fix the cooling problem

 

News And Views

 

It was noted that when the club was originally formed it was incorporated to rent the airport where they were based so the club at that time had more authority to “police” the members then now

 

Kent noted that he has been a member since the beginning (25 years) and it took him 15 years to get Phil Bolenbaugh to join
