Minutes of February 10, 2011 meeting
The Meeting was called to order by Roger Kellogg
at 7:00 pm.
Minutes of previous meeting were accepted as
shown on the FVFC web page
Treasurer’s report was read. At the last meeting
we wrote a check for $49.00 to Charlie’s restaurant because we did not meet the
$250.00 minimum. No further transactions since last meeting. The current balance
is $2795.88. It was moved, seconded and the report was accepted.
First business Item discussed was arrangements
for the 2011 Christmas Party. It was noted that the 2010 party at Arrowhead cost
an average of $46.28/person and there was (57) paid attendance. Each person paid
$30.00 and the club paid the $16.28 difference. There was some discussion about
what to do for 2011. Jim Wolak, Mick Pahnke and Barry Ward will secure some
arrangements before the March meeting. Barry will spearhead the effort.
There was some discussion about what to do when
we do not meet the minimum at Charlie’s. It was suggested that we buy food to
meet the minimum and then donate that food to a food pantry. That was discussed
with the restaurant manager and he agreed. It was moved, seconded and accepted
to do this. Barry and Vance volunteered to deliver the food to a suitable food
pantry. We met the Charlie’s minimum at this meeting and will have to wait to
try out the arrangement.
Matt Masterson had some observations about the
high cost of club activities and is disgruntled with accountability for our
funds at some unstated time. He is dissatisfied with presentations at the
meetings and would like to see more emphasis on safety. Several people had
follow up comments.
Alan Hard bought an Ercoupe in Sacramento,
California early this past December. He made a (6) day flight to bring it back
to Chicago. He made a photographic record of the trip and gave a slide
presentation at the meeting. In making this trip he filed flight plans and used
Flight Following for the entire trip. Previously he had never used Flight
Following but is now a “convert”. The flight went well. He had a minor oil leak
that caused some concern but it did not become a problem. The final leg of the
trip was made “VFR on Top” which he had not done before. It worked out well
because as he got close to home, as advised by Flight Following, the sky cleared
up enough to make the descent thru the clouds. He landed and hangered the plane
at Sandwich because of all the snow at Cushing.
Bob Beckstrom talked for a few minutes about some
recent Angel Flights he has done. He remarked about how grateful the recipients
are and how many of them have health problems that put them right on the edge.
The meeting was adjourned at 8:45 pm.
