FEATURE PRESENTATION
Tom Wartel, Former Air traffic Controller with 25 years experience gave a
presentation on TFRs and flying in them
You can fly in a TFR area provided you file a flight plan and have a
transponder. You must be “Talking and Squaking”
Tom noted that a typical TFR has an inner 10 mile radius area and outer 30 mile
radius. To enter the 10 mile you must submit a manifest for your aircraft and
have a security check (stay out)
In the 30 mile area you must file a flight plan and you will be assigned a
transponder code so you can be tracked.
PROJECTS
Steve V. Kitfox – Making progress, working the turtle deck. Should be covered
this summer
Andrew K. Cassult – No progress. Currently working in Minnesota. Working on
Moonys by day and helping with a Thrush turbo conversion and restoration by
night.
Tom H. Kitfox – instrument panel is in. expects to be flying this summer
Roger K. RV 7 – working on the engine installation. Has all the exhaust tubes
but need to weld them together. Last meeting Roger noted he needed a tube bender
with a tighter radius then what he has. Roger filled the tube with water and
froze it. Was able to bend the tube with out kinking it.
WHO’S BEEN FLYING
Several members reported logging a bunch of local flying. All are happy to be
back in the air.

GOOD OF THE CLUB
Roger reported on a RV10 pilot who smelled gas in the cockpit while on short

The pilot managed to land and exited the aircraft, then the pilot pulled the
fire extinguisher and thought he put out the fire, started walking away and the
plane burst in to flames.
