Minutes of May 5, 2011 meeting
Meeting start at 6:58 PM.
Visitors - Ricky Sponholtz visitor, hopes to solo on 16th birthday soon. His
grandfather owned the airport long ago, his dad lived on the field, his mom was
a student, and Bud put them together.
Reports
Read the minutes of the April meeting, approved as recorded.
Treasurer reports $2392, and 39 paid members.
Training - Ricky is going thru primary training, hasn’t yet taken written yet.
Phil said AOPA has a bunch of classes you can take online - good info,
certificate, credit for wings, and insurance.
Website - Don is keeping up to date the yahoo calendar, but this is not synching
with website.
Clow Report - nothing significant to report – missing trailer, might turn up.
Cushing Report – It’s wet. No gas at Cushing – go to Joliet or Poplar Grove for
unleaded, possibly no fuel here all year.
Talked about Christmas party at Bolingbrook Golf Club. –nothing new to discuss.
Cavalcade – Barry spoke for Kevin, looking for volunteers, they need help at
entrance and drivers for the tractors & trams other. Not a finalized plan. Need
~11 bodies for shorter shifts, etc. Contact Kevin.
Projects
Steve – still has his Kitfox, nothing to report
Tom- Kitfox, expect to have it out at Cushing in a couple of weeks. Bought new
lift struts, originals were bent. They fit much better but cost 280 bucks to
ship from Idaho. Putting tail on, some wiring left to do.
Barry – flew a couple of times went to JOT, his first time being there. Nice
little airport.
Don – flew a 172 a couple of times from Clow, just for currency.
Tom – flew the Evektor, lots of room, steam gauges, he likes it.
Bob R. (Cushing) – went flying, went south, coming back wind picked up, just got
it back into the hanger before the rain came in. But he has been flying a bit.
Joe – went around the patch a few times – last Sunday, cold.
Phil – went to Karen’s by accident (restaurant at Bloomington BMI), stumbled
onto the memorial for the owner who recently passed away.
Pilot Ed – Pulling G’s – What’s it Good
For?
War story –discussed observations about the Global Hawk which is flying itself
and taxied itself to the hanger at Beale AFB.
Also talked about how the U2 is talked down to the runway.

Upcoming Events -
Kent C will host our next club meeting on Saturday, 6/11, at the Catish Air
Ranch – picnic at 4:00 followed by business meeting. Map describing where it is
I-88/orchard road NW. Will post instructions on the web page. Bring dish to pass
if you are not flying in??
July meeting at Charlie’s with guest speaker.
Fly-in at the Frasca field – free camping, hotel,
May 22 fly-in – motorcycle race fly-in at Blackhawk. Sunday. Propose we all meet
at Cushing for 9am wheels up to track.
