Mick and Bob have a $70 Hamburger
Article adapted
from an Email by Mick Pahnke.
He took the pictures, too!
(Editor's note: Typically a man of few words, Mick sent me the following quick email about a trip he took took in the RV-9A to Sheboygan, WI. Only the thrifty nature of Mick's powerful Subaru powerplant kept the tariff below $100 -- the current inflated-gas-price-adjusted-cost for what was formerly the $50 hamburger. Mick makes it sound like more than one plane went on this junket, but -- if so -- you can't tell who might have joined him. I thought Bob was in the right seat of the RV, so it couldn't have been him...)
Bob and I took the RV up to Sheboygan on
Saturday. Left in a group from Morris to head out to the coast by Gary...

... and then up the shoreline to Sheboygan.

It was 150 statute miles over water but usually only a couple
miles out. Sheboygan is a very nice, modern airport where we had lunch...

before getting into our planes for the overland trip back...

The bottom of O'Hare's airspace there is 3000' so we were
around 2500'-2800'. The lunch was $10 and used about 20 gallon of fuel,
somewhere around $60. The view, priceless.
I was using the autopilot but it was
surprisingly bumpy and difficult to frame the pictures. Although it was clear,
it wasn't as clear as that perfect day we landing at Meigs.
