Thoughts from the Editor

The flying season is coming to a close, but it was a great one!  Since coming back from Oshkosh we have enjoyed a number of notable trips, including a great fly-in to Rantoul; jaunts to Grandpa's Farm, Galt and Rochelle; and our annual Tommy George overnight.  We also managed to squeeze in a trip to the Chicago lakeshore to watch the Air and Water show, and a fantastic picnic at Clow.

Yeah, it's been a while since I got out the last Newsletter issue, but I think you will agree that the material in here makes up for it.  This is a veritable Double -- no, make that a Triple --  Issue!  We've got articles about the kind of flying that many of us Ultralight and former Ultralight pilots can only dream about.  Mick Pahnke wrote up his experience about piloting his RV 9A all the way to Florida and back.  Ken Graham spins a tale about a trip to even more remote locales:  from Edmonton to Fairbanks.  The ever-reliable Evan Wright, all the while in the middle of a move from the North side of Chicago to a new house in the suburbs, submitted two articles:  one about a trip to Cedar Falls, Iowa; and another about his obsession with the A-2 flight jacket.  We close with a piece, authored by Roger Kellogg, about the joy and blood-pressure-reducing therapy of a simple open-cockpit sunset flight.

If you enjoy reading Newsletters, send to me (via email to gilomen@ais.net) any and all stories about flying that you have done, flying that you wanted to do and flying that made you wish you had stayed on the ground, as well as any amusing anecdotes, grumpy gripes, scary stories and wanted/for sale/for trade ads.  Let's get to it, people!
