Grandpa's Farm and Gault's "Fliers and Tires"

Article and Pictures by Brian Gilomen

A Busy weekend!  On Sunday, August 12 -- the day after the Chanute AFB First Annual Air Festival -- Grandpa's Farm hosted its traditional fly-in in conjunction with the Mendota Sweet Corn Festival.  Not to be outdone, Galt Airport held its annual "fliers and tires" fly-in and drive-in on the same day.  "What the heck", a bunch of us said.  "Let's squander our planet's rapidly depleting oil resources and hit them all!"

And so we did.

After the usual delicious (and low-cholesterol!) breakfast at Grandpas . . .

. . . we checked out the sights:

Running low on gas, and unsure of our ability to make it directly to Galt from Grandpa's, we decided to detour to Rochelle.  Unfortunately, the wait there for gas was a tad long:

But, where else could you see the Oscar Mayer Wiener Wagon fly by on the Interstate, just past the cornfields?

Finally gassed-up (and not just because of breakfast), we were able to depart for Galt.

At Galt, we were greeted by young ladies a tad more to our liking than the cud-chewing, corn-fed Sweet Corn Queen and her Court from Mendota:

Brian found his next Jaguar, and his next motorcycle:

Evan found his first and second choice in a next car.  One-stop Shopping!
